Flag Football ‘09
Even rain can’t dampen the students’ spirits. Through poun- ding rain, over 75 students participated in the student council-sponsored flag football tournament on Nov. 17. While teams like the “Swine Crew,” “The Winners” and “The Ligers” all participated in the tournament, it was “The Seven Dwarfs” who prevailed.
Football ‘09
The Bears, whose season ended in a Sectional Finals bout against Warren Central, went 6-6 on the season. The team, led by senior running back Isaiah Roundtree and junior quarterback Tre Roberson, excelled in away games, winning four of six games. At home, however, the team was not so lucky, as they lost four of six games. Key victories in the season included two wins over township rival LN and a Sectionals tournament victory over North Central.
Soccer ‘09
The team’s season ended in a familiar fashion this year, losing to rival Cathedral in Sectional finals. Although its record was a bleak 7-6-6, suffering tough losses to teams like Avon, Speedway and Carmel, the team stayed strong through an injury-ridden season. Led by senior captains Brandon and Charles Leonhard, the Bears prevailed in some games, including a towering win over township rival LN.
LC/LN Boys Basketball Game
So close, yet so far away. Although the Bears led throughout most of their season-opener against LN, it ended in a 41-57 overtime loss. In front of a sell-out crowd, young talent stood out against the Wildcats, with sophomores Jeremy Hollowell and Tyler Corley leading the way. But in the end, the Bears couldn’t break out of their nine-year losing streak against the rival school.
Holiday Concert ‘09
To end the first semester, scores of performing artist participated in the Holiday Concert. Each night of the performance, hundreds of people came to the LC auditorium to enjoy the annual event.
Gymnastics ‘10
The Lady Bears gymnastics team has found success this season with the leadership of seniors Camille Hayes and Jessica Leko. According to Hayes, the team has hopes of making it back to State as a team, after beating teams like Shelbyville and Center Grove. The Lady Bears won State in 2007.
Ping Pong ‘10
On Feb. 3, students and faculty gathered in the fieldhouse for a common purpose: to play ping pong. Although dozens of people participated in the tournament just to have fun, they donated to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in the process. Swimming ‘10
The swimming season is over for the girls with junior Mckenzie Powell being the only one to make it to State. The boys have Sectionals Thursday and Saturday at Lawrence North. Cub photos/ Chris Gore
Wrestling ‘10
The wrestling team finished with a strong season, freshman Andre Butts being the first freshmen in LC wrestling history to make it to Semi-State. Senior Austin Enghauser finished his career at LC with a chance at State as an alternate, but did not get the chance to wrestle. Cub photos/ Chris Gore
LC/LN Boys Basketball Rematch
The boys basketball season came to an end with a 66-73 loss to township rival Lawrence North in the second round of Sectionals. This loss felt a lot like how the Bears started the season, with 41-57 loss to LN. Cub photos/ Chris Gore
Comedy Night ‘10
LC’s first comedy night brought out a crowd and raised $200 for Student Council. The night’s funniest contestant was senior Duncan Kissinger who went home with a $50 prize for his jokes.
Behind the Scences: Cub Reporter
The student newspaper, the Cub Reporter, works overtime to make deadline and deliver news over its three different news outlets. The Cub now has a print edition, a broadcast program and an online site. This school year was the first for the award-winning program to host three different types of media. Baseball ‘10
Going into the season the team was ranked No. 5 in the state, but the baseball team found tough competition with early losses to Connersville and Roncalli. The team will have to bounce back Saturday when they have double header at LC. Cub photos/ Chris Gore
Mr. LC Mangeant ‘10
On April 16, LC’s finest came out donning their best spirit wear,
performing their best talents, and sporting their best
question-answering skills in hopes of being named Mr. LC. Nine
contestants were in the “mangeant,” and over 75 people came to watch.
Sponsored by student council, English teacher Richard Phillipy was the
Master of Ceremonies. Senior Sean Jordan walked away with top honors
and was named Mr. LC.
Aida
On April 30, May 1 and 2, the performing arts department performed Elton John and Tim Rice’s “Aida,” which, according to director Kathleen Horrigan, is a “timeless love story.” The leads in the play were senior Gigi Aldridge and junior Joe Mount. According to many students and staff, it was the best musical the performing artists had ever put on.
LTDM
While LC and LN usually compete against each other, on May 8, the two schools came together to raise money for Riley Children’s Hospital with the Lawrence Township Dance Marathon. Modeling off of Indiana University’s 36-hour dance marathon, the five-hour event had dancing, dodgeball, basketball, ping-pong, volleyball and plenty of food. They raised over $2,000 for the hospital.
While grilling out, students got a chance to take a whack at a car that student council members spray-painted with an anti-Wildcat focus. Before the LC/LN game started, about twenty people stepped up to the challenge. Afterward, the Bears shut out the Wildcats, 3-0. Junior Christian Montgomery pitched a perfect game.
