On Jan. 12 the small country of Haiti was devastated with an earthquake that came in at 7.0 on the Richter scale. The estimated death tole right now is 150,000 people and 194,000 injured.
Financial support from around the world has come in to help the survivors. A large number of actors and singers held a donation benefit concert and the University of Kentucky Basketball team took donation calls, raising over $1 million. People from all over the country have been helping the cause by donating money to Haitian relief, including LC.
The student council sponsored a “Help for Haiti” drive on Friday to collect money for the earthquake victims. Since there are about 2,500 students in the school, the hope was to collect $2,500. In just one class period, however, more than $3,000 was collected. It will be donated to the Red Cross to help Haiti’s earthquake victims.
Even in these tough economic times everybody has been able to give what they can to help the situation.
